Born in 1949, Christian Etienne has spent a lifetime directing his energy and enthusiasm into cooking, attaining the honored title of Master Chef of France. Etienne has a strong passion for the traditions and culinary specialties of his native Provence, and he is renowned for his thematic menus celebrating the seasonal treasures of the region.
As owner of the acclaimed Restaurant Christian Etienne in Avignon, Etienne delights his guests with imaginative offerings such as his "tomato menu" in the summer and his famous "truffle menu" in the winter. The critics have expressed their approval as well: Christian Etienne has earned a one-star rating from the Michelin Guide, two stars from Bottin Gourmet, and a 16/20 score from Gault & Millau.
Etienne shares his years of experience in selecting, keeping and preparing the "black princess" of French cuisine in The Magic of the Truffle, his first book available in English translation. He is the author of several other books published in French, including La Magie de la Tomate and La Magie de l'Huile d'Olive.
