Surely there's no substitute for savoring the real meal, but we wish to whet your appetite for your next lunch or dinner date at Carole Peck's Good News Cafe with this "virtual" sampler of several of our signature dishes. Proceeding from soup, starters and drinks to entrees and desserts, this slide show takes you through a typical meal at Good News -- and is certain to make you want to schedule that reservation now!

You begin this slide show with Our Original Lobster Soup with lobsert chunks, a longtime standard soup offering on our lunch and dinner menus. We stir your taste buds at the start of each meal with our popular sour dough peasant bread round and cracked-pepper pappadum. Another pleasant way to begin a Good News meal is to indulge in one of our house martinis: We present three choices from the martini menu here, matched on the bar Carole's mouth-watering Crispy Onion Bundle with homemade ketsup.

Our virtual menu tour then visits several more dishes featured regularly among our starter and salad offerings. Pictured in the Radio Room is our Flash-Fired Beef, served under grilled romaine-wrapped mozzarella and roasted plum tomatoes. Next, the table is set in the main dining room for two delicious dishes: The Martha Salad, a salad of layered beets with avocado, peas and cucumber, topped with horseradish cream and finished with a chive dressing; and Jack's Pecan-Crusted Fresh Oysters, with cherry, jicama, tomato salsa and chili aioli (ask Carole to tell you about Jack!).

Now it's time for the main course, and our virtual tour provides several sumptuous entree selections that are regularly featured on the Good News menu. First up is one of our signature dishes, "Always Good" Wok-Seared Shrimp, served with green beans, peas, olives, roast potatoes and garlic aioli ("Over 800,000 sold," declares Carole!). Next we steal a view of Henry's Free-Range Rotisserie Chicken as it reaches golden-brown perfection before arriving on your plate with buttermilk mashed potatoes and wok-seared seasonal veggies. Crispy Soft-Shell Crabs are another popular entree whenever in season, and our presentation pairs these crabs with polenta, slow-roasted tomatoes, thin green beans, shallots and mango, topped with a mango chipotle drizzle.

Not satisfied yet? We complete our virtual tour of entrees with two entrees worth waiting for. First sample our Halibut Fillet with Horseradish Crust, served on spinach and beet slices and topped with matchstick potatoes. Then take a virtual taste of Individual Rack of Lamb served with kale, semolina raisin bread pudding and grilled asparagus and paired with our Cuvee Carole Peck Merlot from Provence.

Surely no tour of the Good News Cafe menu is complete without indulgence in the award-winning dessert creations of our pastry chef, Becky Shea Vermilyea. After a brief trip past the temptations of the dessert bar showcase--chock filled with the offerings of local chocolatier Bridgewater Chocolate--our slide show displays two of our favorites: Tahitian Vanilla Cake (left) and "Mile High" Coconut Layer Cake. We then proceed to the table to view your personal serving of the "Mile High" Coconut Cake,, served with mango and raspberry sauce.

How better to close our virtual tour with a parting image of one of Becky's signature desserts: "Better than Yankee Doodles, bittersweet chocolate cupcakes served with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Match your dessert with a cappuccino--or any of the fine coffees, teas and specialty liqueurs available--and you will already be planning your next visit to the Good News!
