Viewing our sculptures

Good News Cafe's unique collection of outdoor sculptures, on continuous exhibition at the restaurant, caught the eye and imagination of Susan Campbell and Bill Heald, authors of the eclectic travel guide Connecticut Curiosities. Here's what they wrote after their encounter of the artistic kind:

"It's amazing how something that's a little unusual can yank you right off the beaten track and into a dining establishment. For example, while minding our own business and sashaying (or motoring, as less artistic-minded types might say) down Main Street in Woodbury, we thought we saw something that was incredibly out of place. Where you would normally expect to see a garden-variety shopping center (with the usual shops and eateries), we spied a very futuristic version of Stonehenge that meant one of two things: Either there was a fresh round of UFO/Druid activity in this quaint town, or something other than UFO/Druid activity was going on in Woodbury for a change.

What was in fact going on was the worlds of art and fine dining crashing together on the lawn of the Good News Cafe. Renowned Chef Carole Peck has an art gallery in her restaurant to complement her menu of eclectic comestibles, and the art spills all the way outdoors. The lawn sculpture of George Nicke Hendricks has graced the cafe for a couple of years now, and the food (and art) within is as interesting and stimulating as the sculpture outside."
