Ted Witek

Ted Witek
Photographer Ted Witek returns to Woodbury with a body of work dedicated to the natural beauty and the unique color and form of every flower in his new exhibition titled "PhotoSynthesis," continuing through July 28 at the Good News Cafe & Gallery.

Witek's photographic study, the result of several years of work, comes from many different countries as he has enjoyed the artistic good fortune to travel widely. While intended as a personal study, his wife Ellen's belief in their artistic merit persuaded him to consult master printer Carol Fonde in New York. Carol's enthusiastic agreement is represented here by this selection of twelve photographs, printed traditionally on archival paper from the original negatives.

Witek offers the following perspective on the works represented in "PhotoSynthesis":

"It is all about visual alertness. This likely explains the diversity of my projects as I tend to 'see photographically.' I respect all technologies used in today's creation of images, but rely more on what can be accomplished by allowing available light to touch film in a hand held camera.

"I am attracted by natural beauty and life being lived. In the street, I often frame what is not otherwise seen. I have done this in over 100 cities across six continents. I also like to work in simple studios. I have been photographing since childhood and take comfort in the self-proclamation of Helmut Newton that he 'got good at 50'!"

--Ted Witek, Lisbon, Portugal

In addition to his previous 2003 exhibition at Good News Caf , Witek has shown his works internationally as he has combined his professional work in Europe with his artistic passion for photography. Recent shows have included the Art Caf Macundo and the Calla Mode, both in Oberursel, Germany; the Vlatavin Gallery in Prague, Czech Republic; and the Farol Design Hotel, in Lisbon, Portugal. Future 2008 shows are scheduled in Oberursel and Berlin, Germany.

The images in this show and other Witek photographs of flowers are now represented by June Bateman Fine Arts in New York City (www.JuneBateman.com). The Calla image was also selected for the set of a scene in the film Sex and the City, a 2008 release. All prints were prepared by Carol Fonde of New York (www.CarolFonde.com). Selection is by Ellen Witek and arrangement by Gretchen Groebel of Woodbury.
